How strong will the scent be?
A reed diffuser is not a machine. It works slowly and quietly — releasing scent through natural evaporation as oil travels up the reeds. The result is a continuous, subtle presence rather than an immediate impact. HALØSISTR diffusers are made for the spaces you inhabit closely — a bedroom, a home office, a reading corner — not for filling large open spaces instantly. If you want an immediate effect, pair your diffuser with the room spray. The spray delivers the scent within seconds while the diffuser builds its presence over the first few days.
How long does it take to notice the scent?
Most diffusers reach their full presence within 3–7 days as the reeds become fully saturated. During the first 24–48 hours the scent may be subtle. This is normal. Flip the reeds on day one to accelerate the process.
Why can't I smell it anymore?
Our sense of smell adapts to familiar scents — this is called olfactory fatigue. If you live with the scent daily, you may stop noticing it. Guests in your space will. Flip the reeds to release a fresh wave, or step outside for a few minutes and return.
Where should I place my diffuser?
Place it where air moves naturally — near a doorway, a window that opens, or an air vent. Air circulation carries the scent through the room. Avoid placing it in a completely sealed, still space. Keep it at a height where air can circulate around the reeds — a shelf or side table works well. Do not place it on the floor.
What affects how strongly it diffuses?
Several factors influence performance. Room size — one diffuser works best in spaces up to approximately 150–200 sq ft. Larger spaces may need two. Humidity — dry air slows evaporation, higher humidity speeds it up. Temperature — warmer rooms diffuse faster, cooler rooms slower. Air flow — gentle circulation helps, direct wind from a fan or AC will evaporate the oil too quickly. Number of reeds — more reeds means stronger scent and faster oil consumption, fewer reeds means lighter scent and longer life.
Can the oil damage my furniture?
Yes. Reed diffuser oil can damage wood finishes, lacquered surfaces, and certain fabrics if it comes into direct contact. Always place your diffuser on a tray or protective surface. If oil spills, wipe immediately with a dry paper towel — do not rub, do not use water. Oil that sits on lacquered wood can react with the finish and cause permanent marks.
Can I place it near fabric or upholstery?
Keep the diffuser away from fabrics, curtains, and upholstered furniture. Oil that contacts fabric may stain permanently.
Is it safe around children and pets?
Keep out of reach of children and pets. Reed diffuser oil is for air use only — it should never be ingested or applied to skin. If skin contact occurs, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If ingested, seek medical attention promptly.
How do I refresh the reeds?
Flip the reeds once or twice a week to refresh the scent. Each flip releases a stronger wave of fragrance. Over time reeds become saturated and lose their ability to draw oil — replace them when the scent noticeably weakens even with fresh oil.
How long does one bottle last?
Approximately 2–4 months depending on room conditions, number of reeds used, and how often you flip them. Warmer rooms and more reeds will shorten the life. Cooler rooms and fewer reeds will extend it.
How is the room spray different?
The room spray delivers an immediate, full presence of the scent — within seconds. It does not last as long as a diffuser but works instantly. Use it to set the mood before guests arrive, after cooking, or any time you want a quick reset. Two to three sprays into the center of the room is enough — do not spray directly onto fabric or surfaces.
How do I use the felt diffuser?
Add drops of oil directly onto the felt — start with a smaller amount and add more based on your preference. Allow the oil to absorb fully into the felt before hanging — this takes a few minutes. Once absorbed, hang anywhere air moves naturally: a wardrobe, a car, a drawer, a bathroom, a bedside hook, a gym bag. The felt will release scent gradually as air passes through it. Reapply oil when the scent fades.
What is the refill oil for?
The refill oil is for those who already have a diffuser vessel they love — from HALØSISTR or elsewhere — and simply want to replenish it with a new scent or continue with their current one. Pour directly into your existing bottle. Compatible with any standard reed diffuser vessel. Also works with porous ceramic diffusers and felt diffusers.
How do I refill my diffuser?
Pour the refill oil carefully into your vessel. Replace the reeds with fresh ones if possible — used reeds can carry residue from the previous scent and may affect the new one. If switching scents, rinse the vessel with rubbing alcohol and allow to dry completely before refilling.
Can I mix scents?
We recommend one scent at a time for the clearest experience. Mixing is possible but unpredictable — the result may not resemble either scent as intended.
